Ugh... what a day. I need to find a grief counselor and get back on track because Mommy was none-too-pleasant today.

early breakfast: cereal bar and banana

breakfast: eggs w/ketchup (and coffee for mommy)

snack: skipped... much to Daddy's dismay

lunch: hot dogs, green beans (organic canned) and homemade potato strings that wound up being more like string clusters

snack: I have no flaming clue. I was washing out the chicken coop and totally uninvolved. I would guess rice crackers or baby peeled carrots (both quick, easy and readily available)

dinner: Outback Steakhouse. Their apple juice is safe as is their Joey Sirloin with side of broccoli sans butter. LOVE Outback for their allergenic-friendliness. Mommy downed 3 Sydney's Cosmos and 3 large glasses of water with lemon with a small prime rib with broccoli and mashed potatoes (which are not okay--dairy) while Daddy had a beer with... you know, I have no idea what he had. I think some kind of pork tenderloin.

Thursday, May 28, 2009

We took a half-share today from the final Thursday group delivery. We got broccoli, potatoes, a tomato, lettuce, some peaches & apriums (what are THOSE?!), a cantaloupe and a few other things I can't remember. Oh, spinach.

early breakfast: cereal bar

breakfast: eggs with spices and ketchup. Tiny bit of fresh-squeezed OJ. ;) Coffee for mom & dad.

snack: carrot sticks

lunch: tuna pods

snack: rice crackers

dinner: Mike's famous meatloaf with side of today's organic broccoli. Mike and I also had some organic lettuce with EVOO and balsamic vinegar and salt (finely ground sea salt).

Matthew & I had Yummi Earth lollipops for dessert. ;)

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

breakfast: eggs. In the fall, I'm going to experiment more--I promise. ;) But seriously--I'll bet MOST people tend to eat the same thing for breakfast each day. Matthew's eggs were plain with ketchup. Mike and I had organic eggplant and onions fried up with ours.

snack: last of the organic strawberries

lunch: Matthew had rice pasta. Mike and I had leftover chicken with nothing else (although the chicken had tomato and eggplant slices on it. Mike considers this "vegetables")

snack: rice crackers... and a Yummi Earth lollipop *eyeroll*

dinner: Mike made dinner and it was ENTIRELY FRIED (in EVOO). >:( I mean, the pork chops and the potatoes--I get that. But the ZUCCHINI??? He could've thrown them in the microwave steamer! *sigh*

I feel dessert coming on. Something in the way of fruit. We're overrun with bananas at the moment...

MEMORIAL DAY!!!

breakfast: eggs (Matthew's were plain, ours were with eggplant and onions fried in EVOO) plus some espresso we found that we watered down to make "coffee" because we'd been up REALLY late.

snack: banana

lunch: Matthew had a hot dog with slices of tomato and peeled baby carrots. Mike and I had PB&J

snack: well, I thought apple until I asked the status of the apple only to find out it had been left in Matthew's room. I warned him to get it lest the dogs find it and eat it (which would launch screaming and scolding from Matthew) but he assured me his door was closed and the apple was safe. *eyeroll* So he had the last of the rice crackers for a snack.

dinner: chicken breasts topped with slices of eggplant and tomato plus collards cooked in EVOO with pine nuts and garlic. Matthew doesn't "do" collards, so he had sliced cucumbers.

dessert: Matthew had some Rice Dream ice cream with Ah!laska syrup. BTW, his servings are about 4-6 Tablespoons worth of ice cream. He's 5.

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Okay... I got back from Texas only to endure WICKED food poisoning. BTW--it lasts DAYS and includes fever. Who knew?

early breakfast: cereal bar and organic apple (got a delivery yesterday)

breakfast: Matthew had frozen (homemade) GF pancakes (choc chip) and Mike and I had eggs with zucchini and onion (organic from the delivery)

snack: I think we skipped it

lunch: Mike and Matthew had leftover chicken legs from my MIL (who loves to give us food--especially if we're sick) that were grilled with just some EVOO on them. Side dish of organic blueberries & strawberries for Matthew. I had PB&J on Nature's Promise bread (gluten) with side of strawberries.

snack: organic peeled baby carrots from delivery yesterday. Bonus--I don't recall getting them before

dinner: burritos from Baja Fresh. Matthew's is bean and cheese kid's burrito minus cheese plus chicken. He can't have the chips or the Mott's applesauce (corn syrup) but he loves the rice.

dessert: Rice Dream ice cream with Ah!laska chocolate syrup.

Friday, May 15, 2009

early breakfast: organic strawberries and slices of an organic peach

breakfast: eggs scrambled with Taylor Ham (and water, of course)

snack: banana

lunch: hamburger with tomato slices and pickles

snack: rice crackers and an Apple & Eve juicebox (we were at the playground) plus 2 apples--each one half-eaten. Snacks are likely to cause constipation.

... to be continued...

dinner plans: Mike's famous meatloaf with green beans

Organic produce coop delivery--Thursday, 5/14

Generally I don't take a share of food on Thursday, but I sold my Saturday share to a new person who came on late and I had someone looking to try out half of a share on Thursdays--so I took half of a share today. Plus I took a fruit share today (it's cheaper for me to buy it on Thursdays because when you have 3+ people buying fruit, the price drops).

So here's what we got:

Half of veggie share (which does include some fruit):

3 small green zucchini (not horribly small--like not "dip in dressing as snack" small)
I got 3 because I evened out the odd number with a sandwich bag of mesclun greens
for the other person--who got 2 zukes
1 cuke
1 small bunch of kale (the other person got a head of lettuce for this)
1 head of broccoli (the other person got about 8 large carrots for this)
1 tomato
1 bell pepper
4 vidalia onions
3 apples
3 oranges
1 large eggplant
1 bunch of bananas (traded for a small cantaloupe--like bigger than a softball, but not by a lot)

The full fruit share was:

(2) 8 oz. containers of strawberries
1 pineapple
(1) 3 lb. bag of braeburn apples (2-1/2" min diameter)
4 peaches

This is good because I'll be away from Saturday night until very late Wednesday night and then we'll get a full share that Saturday after I'm back. So there won't be a lot of food to go to waste while I'm gone. We're getting back into the swing of things--so you should start seeing our food change a little and not be so monotonous.

Thursday, May 14, 2009

early breakfast: cereal bar

breakfast: eggs with Taylor ham

snack: none--we were in class. He did have a Apple & Eve fruit punch juice box on the way home

lunch: leftover chicken breast cooked with fried peppers and onions served with canned organic peas

snack: banana (organic)

snack: Matthew and I split an 8oz. container of organic strawberries

dinner: some kind of steak Mike picked up that was way more money than we normally pay for meat--but it WAS delish. Side of organic broccoli (steamed). Mike and I had a glass of red wine and Matthew had water. Mariella has 2.5 oz. of organic sweet potatoes and tried to pull my hand to her mouth! I guess she IS ready for solids! LOL! She was 6mo on 5/7. :)

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

The behavior reactions continue to flare up in monumental form. I'm "recovering" from the last several months, but I'm still not all the way there--and it shows first and foremost in the attention I pay to my son (vs. sharing it with things I need to catch up on--like reconciling our accounts, cleaning the overwhelming mess that's accumulated, etc.) and food... and therefore budget/money. They are all still suffering and it makes it hard to get through the overload and keep myself okay long enough to get through it and move on okay.

Right now, I'm suffering wicked insomnia because I have to get on a plane and go to out of state again and show up in court to see if we can get our former foster daughter back. The anxiety is really doing me in.

Todays menu...

breakfast: apple pandowdy: apples (organic), raisins (organic), cinnamon and I think that's it... all goes in the microwave to soften up a bit and then layers the bottom of a 9"x13" baking dish. Gluten-Free Pantry Old Fashioned Cake & Cookie Mix batter made up and poured on top. I honestly don't recall how long to bake it for--but I'll check and post back.

snack: apple slices

lunch: Burger King. What a huge mistake. We like BK because the meat is broiled instead of fried in oil. We can get apple fries (they're raw, peeled apple slices) and apple juice in a box that has no corn syrup. But I'm almost positive there's corn syrup in the bun and I'm wondering if Matthew's behavior is that we've exceeded a gluten threshold (which honestly, I never was able to tie to behavior as well as I tied it to constipation/digestive issues).

snack: peeled organic carrot (a big one) and water

a-nuh-szer snack: potato chips

dinner: not yet planned.

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Thursday, May 7, 2009

early: organic grape tomatoes AND a cereal bar

breakfast: scrambled eggs with peas. Mike and I also had coffee.

snack: one hot dog

lunch: chocolate chip pancakes for Matthew. Mike and I had tuna pods

snack: potato chips. Matthew actually ate the garlic hummus!!!

dinner: BBQ pork ribs in the crock pot over brown rice with green beans (I think they were frozen--Mike made them)

I know dessert is bound to happen. I feel an itch...

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

early: organic apple

breakfast: Mike made GF pancakes. Mine had apple slices in them and Matthew's had Enjoy Life semi-sweet tiny chocolate chips (completely safe).

snack: rice crackers and peeled organic carrot a la "What's up, Doc?"

lunch: Nature's Promise hot dogs and organic tomato wedges. I was desperate.

snack: potato chips

dinner: sushi from the local supermarket. We just have to be careful which ones we buy because sometimes they'll add stuff to the rice or into a sauce or something. Usually soy.

dessert: watermelon (non-organic) from the supermarket trip this afternoon *eyeroll*

What happens when we don't keep to our eating habits...

Okay... yesterday was a COLOSSAL disaster. This weekend I reconciled all the banking and found that with all we've been going through since October, it resulted in spending an extra $1200 on eating out between January and April. :O

Plus, we slacked off badly this weekend. As a result, Matthew was in a class (play skits and fun stuff) yesterday that he LOVES and I not only had to chase him down to get him, but then had to carry him--kicking and screaming at the top of his lungs about how stupid I was and that I was the stupidest parent ever, take him back, etc.--out of the museum his class was in with all kinds of people coming to see what the problem was. Thankfully, another parent carried the baby (who was in a carseat carrier). Ds had to be removed because when he started kicking filing cabinets, it was enough already. I had already brought him into the hall to talk to him when he was misbehaving once before. The class is a total of 45 minutes. We were out by the 20-minute mark.

Anyway, we got outside and I put him down to get the keys and he was OFF and running back into the museum while the other parent stood there holding the baby. I had no idea what to do. Thankfully, she said "Go..." and Matthew DID come back towards the parking lot (because he couldn't open the museum door).

I finally get him in the car only to have him kick EVERYTHING--including the baby's carseat carrier--and scream at me for another 25 minutes (it's a 35 minute drive).

He had a piece of a chocolate chip cookie from Quizno's yesterday (approximately 1-1/2" square--Mike and I were grabbing a sandwich for ourselves to split on the road) plus 1/4 of an Old Fashioned donut (no icing, no filling--nothing) from Dunkin Donuts on Sat. and another 1/4 on Sunday when Mike and I needed coffee.

WHAT. were. we thinking??

He's also had nightmares the past 3 nights.

And dummy me tried to explain to him that we'd go back to the museum next week... that I knew he was sorry... blah, blah, blah. I mean, really--what CAN you do? When I tried ignoring him, he'd tell me "I'M TALKING TO YOU!!!" and really, we DRILL into him "do unto others" so I can't just ignore him.

Ugh... so like the pain of seeing that money (that we DESPERATELY need) go right down the toilet combined with this--well, it's enough to go on lock-down with our food.

:(

Sunday, May 3, 2009

Early breakfast: yeah... we're back to cereal bars.

Breakfast: Mike made GF fruit pancakes. Some had blueberries (frozen from our garden), some had organic apple slices and some had organic strawberries (he got stuck eating those). Plus we had some sliced organic strawberries on the side (our produce was delivered Thursday).

Snack: uneaten rice crackers.

Lunch: a concoction of chicken breast, eggplant and onions fried up in EVOO.

Snack: Ugh... 1/4 piece of an Old Fashioned donut from Dunkin Donuts. :(

Dinner: eye round (we can't afford organic meat) and collards made in EVOO with garlic and pine nuts... which I burnt.

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Early: cereal bar, then strawberries. This kid is going through a growth spurt for sure.

Then breakfast... we had eggplant fried in EVOO omelette but Matthew decided that he no longer liked eggplant--so he ate leftover steamed chicken and broccoli. *eyeroll*

Snacks: LOOOTS of rice crackers. He just kept coming back for more. Lots of "I'm hungry" today. Sliced organic pears AND some peeled baby carrots (organic this time).

Lunch: peanut butter and jelly on gluten-free bread

Snacks: so help me I have no clue because at this point I took on the task of reconciling 2 very busy bank accounts PLUS both produce coops accounts since January and it took me no less than 9 hours. Based on Matthew's behavior at dinnertime, I'd say Mike totally forgot to snack him down.

Dinner: Believe it or not, we got pizza. We were trying to test out Matthew's dairy allergy. Turns out, he took all the cheese off. None-the-less, there was sauce and who knows what was in it. He had some disruptive sleep last night, but admittedly, we're dealing with allergies--so I'm not sure if it was the pizza dough, or sauce, or allergies, or the combo.
